One of Garaga’s employees had the crazy idea of turning her garage into a playroom for her kids and the results were incredible. With a 2 year-old son and a little girl on the way, this room has shown to be very practical for her and her husband and very amusing to her son who could spend hours playing in there. Her garage is unrecognizable!
We’ve asked her a few questions about her idea and found out how she managed to do it all. Get inspired to do the same, there are so many ideas out there!
Q: Why have a playroom in a garage?
A: We understand your worry. A garage is known from being a dusty room where you tend to store big boxes and gardening tools, so why have a playroom in a garage? Your garage is one of the widest rooms in your house. Sure, you can’t see it now because of your parked vehicles and all those boxes. If you had a major clean up session, you’d see! It’s usually close enough to a main room in your home for supervision and can stay warm all through winter with a quality garage door!
This employee wanted for her son to have a place to play with his toys, and play soccer or hockey somewhere where she could keep an eye on it and also a place where he could play all year round, even through the long winter seasons.
Q: Will my garage be warm enough, even through all of winter?
A: If you have a quality garage door, you should never run into any problems. This woman’s garage door is a Garaga, a Cambridge to be precise. This model offers a thermal resistance of 16 which indicates that the insulation is of superior quality. If you find that your garage door lets in cold air during winter, you can purchase small heating systems.
Q: Can your children get access to the garage door opener?
A: No. She and her husband thought that disconnecting the garage door opener was the smartest way to avoid an accident. She still has the garage door opener on the walls but if her children, intentionally or accidentally touch that button, nothing will happen
Q: What type of paint did you use on your concrete walls?
A: She Behr premium Concrete & Garage Floor Paint for her walls. There are other brands that provide similar products that can be just as good. Check at your local hardware or painting store and see your options.
Q: Where can I purchase all these stickers and floor mats we see on the pictures?
A: Storage Space: These little mounted space savers can be found at Walmart, target, Ikea, and many more places. They are easy to assemble and very practical!
Puzzle Floor mats: The ones in the pictures were found at Walmart, but you can try Toys R Us, Home Depot, Canadian Tires, or online on Amazon. These mats are perfect. They are easy to install and very convenient and comfortable for your kids. You can find puzzle floor mats in many places.
Wall Stickers: From trucks and trains, wild animals in the jungle, to flowers and trees, these wall stickers are available is endless options! The employee picked hers out at Omer Desseres, a Canadian Arts and Crafts store where they sell dozens and dozens of them. If you live in the US, you can check at a Michaels or order some online. You’ll find so many beautiful stickers, all of which can brighten your playroom and give it the right feel. Be creative and use your imagination to create a magical room. They are extremely easy to apply and you can reuse them as much as you’d like!
