Once you’ve invested in a new garage door and have gone through the whole purchasing and installation process, you most think of what you will do with your old garage door panels. Almost all of us would get rid of them, throw them away in the dumpster or give it to their garage door dealer. But why throw away good material? One of Garaga employees surprised all of us and thought of a genius and innovative do-it-yourself project!
Every day, he sees damaged garage door panels being throw away by clients. One day he came up with a crazy idea, build an ice rink! He rounded up all the damaged, or worn out panels and started thinking about the boarded outline for his rink. He was lucky because he had access to all these panels, but you may not. We understand, this project may seem very overwhelming. We’re not going to lie, this ice rink requires a lot of patience and hard work, but when it’s competed, you’ll be so happy you did it! Plus, you can use that time to bond with your kids!
- First, round up the panels you think on using, then measure the outlines of your desired ice rink on a flat surface.
- Once the area is set up, build your rink by framing the perimeter with your panels. Strengthen it with rink brackets and use landscaping spikes or rebar pounded into the ground. This will support the boards.
- Next, use a plastic tarp on the rink area. This plastic will hold the water, allow you to flood your rink as soon as it is cold enough, and this, with or without snow.
It’s possible that you may not have the space to build a giant ice rink or the time to do it. For those who live in the city, you may not even have a backyard. For you city residents, we have found a few more ideas of smaller, yet still very practical and creative projects for you to do.
